As a Christian parent the greatest thing I can give my children is a firm foundation in faith and a love of Christ. This past school year we have enjoyed using the 4th grade homeschool Bible curriculum from Positive Action Bible Curriculum. So you can be sure that I jumped at the chance to review the next item offered, Wise Up, to use with McKenzie (11) who will be in middle school next year.
So, just who is Positive Action for Christ? They are a Christian publishing company that started way back in 1969, specializing in educational material for students from Kindergarten to High School. Their “mission is to equip Bible teachers to magnify the majesty of God” by seeking His glory and grace in all things.
McKenzie is just entering 6th grade when our school year starts back up in August. After looking at the 6th grade book and this book for middle schoolers, I gave her the choice of which one she wanted to study this year. Excitedly she picked the Wise Up curriculum and I am so glad she did! Middle school is sometimes a tough transition but I know with the help of this bible study we will both be able to gain some wisdom as we dig into the book of Proverbs.
We received the softbound 7”x 9” student workbook and 3-ring binder that contains the teacher manual. Both are also available in digital PDF files if you like that option.
Student workbook {$19.95} includes:
~ student exercise that challenge the student to explore God’s Word
~ Lesson note that include fill-in-the-blank questions
~ Engaging design with original artwork
Teacher’s Manual {$49.95} includes:
~ 35 lessons for each average school year
~Weekly schedule that includes outlines for a three, four, or five day week of lessons
~ Target truths that cover the core learning objectives
~ Teaching strategies include notes on presenting the lesson effectively
~ Scripture memory plan for option memorization
~ Testing and evaluation includes weekly quizzes if you want to test. Answer keys are included
~ Student manual pages are copies of the student pages with answers filled in
Each of your students will need their own copy of the student workbook. In addition, they will also need a Bible so they can look up the relevant scripture needed to answer the questions.
We have been using it 3 days a week, M/W/F, spread out over two weeks. We typically try to get her lesson done before leaving for the gym and that has been the perfect schedule during her summer training hours. Once our school year starts we will switch to a regular 4-day schedule and complete one lesson a week to accommodate our school days.
I really like that this curriculum is teaching McKenzie and I what the Bible says wisdom is compared to what the world says it is.
McKenzie started really strong with this curriculum but I quickly realized that she needed me to sit with her starting in lesson 2. Which was no big deal because the teacher manual does suggest doing the study with a parent or teacher guiding you. The time we have together in the Word has been priceless.
Overall, I am super impressed with this Bible curriculum. If you are looking for a homeschool Bible curriculum for your middle school student, I highly recommend you check out Wise Up from Positive Action Bible Curriculum.
The company has several more studies to choose from including the 5th Grade - Possessing the Land that was also reviewed by my CrewMates. Be sure to click on the banner below and read the reviews and see for your self.
