Blogging Through the Alphabet ~ Children's Books from A to Z
One of my goals for 2017 is to grow my blog more. Even if that means just gaining one more Google friend I still want to grow. To accomplish this I plan to blog more regularly during the week and have specific posts posting on set days. To start off the year, I am joining many of my Crew friends by Blogging Through the Alphabet for the next 26 weeks.
Because we like children’s books, each week I would like to share a few books that we love to read at our house. Some of the books will be from our own home library collection while other's from our public library. My goal is to post my Blogging Through the Alphabet ~ Children's Books from A to Z posts each Friday starting next week. It may be evening time until I get my post up but I hope you will join along with us and also share some of your favorites.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, swing by A Net in Time or Hopkins Homeschool and join the fun! After all, the more the merrier!

12 Days of CHRISTmas...
Just last week we finished up our edible 12 Days of CHRISTmas series as we celebrated the Epiphany. My children and I learned so much about the song and what it means. To recap, here is what we did:
On the...
1st Day of CHRISTmas ~ a Partridge in a Pear Tree
2nd Day of CHRISTmas ~ TWO Turtle Doves
3rd Day of CHRISTmas ~ THREE French Hens
4th Day of CHRISTmas ~ FOUR Calling Birds
5th Day of CHRISTmas ~ FIVE Golden Rings
6th Day of CHRISTmas ~ SIX Geese A-Laying
7th Day of CHRISTmas ~ SEVEN Swans A-Swiming
8th Day of CHRISTmas ~ EIGHT Maids A-Milking
9th Day of CHRISTmas ~ NINE Ladies Dancing
10th Day of CHRISTmas ~ TEN Lord's A-Leaping
11th Day of CHRISTmas ~ ELEVEN Piper's Piping
12th Day of CHRISTmas ~ TWELVE Drummer's Drumming
Madison made king cupcakes for us today as I was prepping and packing to get us all ready to travel. Love the simplicity of them to help us celebrate this day of #epiphany . #astablebeginningA photo posted by Jacquelin (@a.stable.beginning) on

The Beginner's Bible ~ a TOS review
Welcome back! Today I am excited to share with you my first review product for the 2017 review year. Let’s get started.
Have you heard that there is a newly updated The Beginner’s Bible from Zonderkidz? Yes! It’s brand spanking new and has been updated to celebrate the 25th anniversary since the first publication with some pretty great features including new stories and visually stunning three-dimensional pictures that seem to just pop off the page. The book is printed on heavy weight paper which is perfect for tiny hands. With over 500 pages this hardcover book includes over 90 stories {48 from the Old Testament and 46 from the New Testament} of both old and new Bible stories. With all these features it's no surprise that The Beginner's Bible was named the 2006 Retailers Choice Award winner in Children's Nonfiction.
This book is recommended for ages 4-8, but I find this book is perfect for my two year old son. Each of my girls has a Bible of their own and he has been wanting a Bible too. When we were offered the chance to review this new Bible I knew this would be the perfect gift to include in my son’s stack of books he receives at Christmas. When Micah opened his Bible on Christmas Day he was so excited and he squealed with joy. It was priceless!
As with previous editions, the stories in this Bible are short and sweet, yet they still keep the original story intact at a childlike level. The stories are the perfect length for young children who normally don’t sit still for very long. Each story is given a title and a scripture reference. One of my favorite features is the dictionary that is included in the back of the book. It is a comprehensive listing of the italicized words that you may need a little more clarification on. The words are defined in short, easy to understand definitions.
We were first introduced to this children's Bible nearly 8 years ago as we began our homeschool journey. This Bible was included as part of Madison's 2nd grade Language Arts reading program. Since then, I have had two more children read through this bible during their second grade year with great success. I am so excited to have McKenzie and Micah use this new updated version when their time comes. To get a closer look at some of the changes check out the old edition vs the new version. The Table of Contents also received an updated look and it is more reader friendly.
In our house we read and study our Bibles during our Morning Time Recitations {MTR}. Now that Micah has his own Bible he is able to sit as quietly as he can and "read" his Bible as we do our daily lessons. I normally sit with him either at the beginning or the end of our MTR and let him pick a story to read aloud to him. You can usually find us snuggled up on the couch under a warm blanket now that the weather has turned cooler. This special one on one time is priceless and Micah and I look forward to it each day. We normally have my older girls listening in too so its really a family affair.
I can't recommend this book to you enough! It makes the perfect gift if you are looking to give a special someone their first Bible. I know we will have many years of enjoyment with this Bible and I look forward to sharing it with my son and daughters. Don't just take my word for it of how great this book is. On the 12th Day of CHRISTmas...
On the 12th Day of CHRISTmas my true love gave to me, TWELVE Drummers Drumming: The Twelve Points of the Apostles Creed. "The Drum is accented with the Triquetra, a symbol of the Trinity. The three points represent Father, Son, and Holy Spirit while the continuous interwoven line represents unity".

On the 11th Day of CHRISTmas...
On the 11th Day of CHRISTmas my true love gave to me, ELEVEN Pipers Piping: The Eleven Faithful apostles {Luke 6:14-16} Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James bar Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas (Thaddeus). There is one note for each of them, two sets of eighth notes for the two sets of brothers. This illustration represents the apostles carrying Jesus' sweet message throughout the world. There are sheep in the pasture representing us, the flock".
