*Almost* edible 10 Plagues study ~ The Plague of Frogs

We are onto day two of our 10 Plagues study and it's all about the frogs. Let’s just put this out there, I am not a fan of frogs...like at all! The frogs in my neighborhood seem to know this fact and will literally sit on my front porch...waiting for me.

Madison is studying biology this year, and you guessed it, she just completed the frog dissection a few weeks ago and had a blast! I didn't even take these pictures, Marie did. Now, that frog was HUGE! In my mind I was thinking ok, maybe little small frogs like the ones in my neighborhood would be the ones that came up from all of the waters. Then, I remembered her frog and immediately got the willy nilly's. Can you imagine? A frog of that size or bigger just hoping around, in your oven, in your bed? EEWWW!

Okay, back to our activities of the day. I never knew they made gummy frogs until I was doing research for this project. People really like to eat candy frogs…OK, we’ll just go with it. Madison, Mikayla, and Montana liked the gummy candy, while McKenzie and Micah did not care for them at all. I honestly think it was a texture thing for the two of them though.

The craft of the day was to make jumpy frogs. I simply printed the template on regular printer paper and the girls colored them in with colored pencils or crayons. Next, I laminated them. This is not necessary but I knew they would want to play with them when they were finished. We used tape to secure the legs and tongue to the frog.

While the girls colored their jumpy frogs I read from Exodus 8:1-15(NIV):

8 1 [a]Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’”
So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.”
Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”

10 “Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.
Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”

12 After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh.
13 And the Lord did what Moses asked. The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields.14 They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them.
15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said."

I also pre-made a frog mask last night for Micah, however, he wanted nothing to do with it. I don’t blame him, not being a frog fan and all.

Today, as we narrated the story back, McKenzie got to play Pharaoh. She was so excited to be able to give this “stink face” and say “NO!”

Be sure to come back tomorrow as we tackle The Plague of Lice, Gnats, and Fleas.
