My 6 year old loves math! If you ask her what she wants to do
first, it is almost always math. The last six weeks we have had the opportunity
to review two online homeschool Math Mini-Courses from A+
Interactive Math .
We are in a great spot with our current math program so the
two courses we reviewed, money and time, were supplemental for our family.
However, these courses can stand alone because of the thoroughness of each to
provide a little helping hand. It is always nice to have a helping hand or
another viewpoint when solidifying topics and filling in gaps with 1st
through 6th grade learning material.
Math Mini Courses Online are
great for helping to fill in gaps. They are economically priced too ranging
from $9.99 - $19.99 depending on the course. Each course includes:
~ multimedia Lessons that teach a wide variety of math
concepts in a fun and engaging way with computer animated videos, audio, and
text
~ built in interactive review for each lesson helps to
point out learning gaps
~ printable worksheets provide extra practice
~ automatic tracking and grading with easy-to-read
progress reports
~ solution guides that include detailed step-by-step
solutions to each problem
~ full text printable versions of lessons
~ printable tests for offline practice

The Money mini course is
geared towards children in grades 1st through 5th and has
18 lessons covering a wide range of topics from Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters,
to counting Dollars and Coins, to making change, budgeting, and calculating
sale price. Now, many of the topics in this mini course are way over my Kindergartener’s
head even though she works at a first grade math level. It’s okay though
because the topics she could learn were great for reviewing over and over
again.
The Time mini course is
geared for students in 1st through 4th grade and retails
for $12.99. The topics include lessons on days, weeks, months, and years, the
four seasons, telling time to the quarter hour, half hour, and hour, as well as
instructions on telling time on digital and analog clocks. This mini course has
20 lessons and it provided more useful instruction for McKenzie because she was
able to work through more lessons.
Since we were already familiar with the A+ Interactive Math program set up of our mini courses was a breeze. I simply logged McKenzie in and had the computer remember the password and launched either the time or money program. McKenzie was able to work on both the time and money courses about 3-4 days a week. Sometimes she only wanted to complete the time course so we did that for a full week and then alternated to the money course the next week.

We have thoroughly enjoyed
our time with the mini courses and I am in the process of narrowing down mini
courses to use with my other girls too for over the summer and next school
year. Be sure to check out what my CrewMates think of these mini courses or any
of the other 18 courses that were reviewed by clicking the link below.
